Metropolitan Soccer Final

Metropolitan Soccer Final

On Monday our Senior Boys Soccer team played in the Metropolitan  North Regional final. I was so proud of the way our students represented our school. They encapsulated what we stand for at Everton Park State School.
In the first half down 1-0 they came back to even things up. In the second half they were down 2-1 only to bounce back and tie up the game with minutes to spare. Their determination also meant that when they were 3-2 down in extra time, they never gave up sending the game in a penalty shootout by scoring a goal, again with minutes to spare.
While their perseverance was commendable it was the way that the boys played as a team. They were united, supporting and encouraging each other, throughout the whole game.  I am convinced that playing as a team and playing for the team was the advantage they had over their opposition.  Congratulations to the team and to Pa Coomber and Mr Thomas for an outstanding demonstration of determination, perseverance, teamwork, fair play and ‘Success with Honour'.
Our soccer players had already won before the final goal hit the back of the net to score a 5-4 victory in the penalty shootout.  I also know that had the result been different they still would have walked off the field with their heads held high and proud of their achievements.
